Biomechanics

You rely on your feet to propel you for almost every physical activity you do. The foot is a complex structure that moves in 3-D motion. For optimum function and comfortable feet, the biomechanics need to be finely tuned and working efficiently. Two common foot types that can cause problems include the flat foot or conversely the high arched foot. Either of these can lead to conditions such as plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinopathy, shin splints, metatarsalgia etc. Wearing footwear that doesn’t suit your foot type may also lead to such problems. Therefore assessment of the individual biomechanics of your feet will be carried out before any treatment commences. Treatment may include mobilisation techniques to improve movement and reduce pain, massage, exercises, advice re appropriate footwear/ training technique and prescription of orthotics. The range of orthotics available is comprehensive ranging from a simple off the shelf device to a device that is custom made in a laboratory for your individual foot.
